The three ingredients I brought together in this recipe were avocado, Brazil nuts and hemp hearts because they provide three important trace minerals associated with thyroid function:

Can Thyroid Nutrition Support Fat Loss?
Your thyroid plays an important role in regulating your metabolism and energy expenditure. That makes thyroid health an important piece of the fat-loss puzzle.
The nutrients in this recipe—selenium, copper and zinc—help support normal thyroid function, which in turn supports the metabolic processes your body relies on every day to burn stored fat for energy.
When you're working on fat loss, it’s worth looking beyond calories alone and considering whether your body has the nutritional support it needs to metabolize energy efficiently.
Avocado is the creamy foundation of these nice cream bars, but I chose it for much more than its texture.
Avocados provide copper, as well as magnesium, manganese, niacin, riboflavin and antioxidants, along with healthy fats and fiber.

Why Is Copper Important for the Thyroid?
Copper is an essential trace mineral involved in normal thyroid function, making it an important part of this recipe's thyroid-supportive nutrient profile.¹ Since thyroid hormones play an important role in regulating metabolism, getting adequate nutrients that support normal thyroid function matters.
What About Avocado and Appetite Control?
Avocado's combination of fat and fiber can help you feel satisfied after eating.
In one study, people who added a whole avocado to breakfast reported greater satisfaction and less hunger than those who ate a breakfast with the same number of calories but less fat and fiber.⁴ These findings suggest that avocado may have a useful role in appetite regulation and a satisfying eating pattern.
Can Avocados Promote Fat Loss?
A 2019 randomized controlled study looked at overweight and obese adults who ate one avocado daily for three months and compared them with a control group that did not eat avocado but consumed a similar number of calories.⁵
The researchers found:
The avocado group experienced a reduction in abdominal fat.
The control group had no significant change in abdominal fat.
These findings are interesting if you're struggling with stubborn belly fat.
Can Avocados Help With Belly Fat?
Avocados are also rich in oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid. A 2020 review found that diets containing meals rich in oleic acid may help reduce abdominal fat and central obesity.⁶
That makes avocado an especially interesting ingredient when you're looking at nutrition, metabolism and body composition as a whole.
Brazil nuts are the ingredient I chose specifically for their selenium content.
Selenium is concentrated in the thyroid gland and plays important roles in thyroid hormone synthesis and metabolism. Selenoproteins are involved in the conversion of T4 to active T3 and also help protect the thyroid from oxidative stress produced during hormone synthesis.²

That makes Brazil nuts a particularly interesting food when we're talking about thyroid function and metabolism.

For many women, especially those navigating busy schedules and changes that come after having children or with age, the challenge is not simply “eating less.”
The challenge is finding foods that help them feel satisfied, energized, and confident in their choices.
That is where recipes like these can fit into a realistic wellness strategy.

They're also a source of:
Healthy fats
Protein
Fiber
Selenium
A little goes a long way
Brazil nuts can contain a very high amount of selenium, and the amount can vary considerably from nut to nut.
More is not better.
Excessive selenium intake can cause toxicity, which is why I don't recommend treating Brazil nuts like popcorn simply because they're nutritious.
For this recipe, they're there for their flavor, texture and nutritional contribution—not because you need large quantities.
Brazil nuts are one of the richest food sources of selenium, which is why I specifically chose them for this recipe. They're also a good source of healthy fats, protein and fiber, making them a satisfying addition to these nice cream bars.
Why Is Selenium Important for the Thyroid?
The thyroid contains a high concentration of selenium, and selenium helps the body make and use thyroid hormones, including converting T4 into the active hormone T3.²
Thyroid hormones help regulate metabolism and energy production, so getting enough selenium is important when you are focusing on body composition.

Can Brazil Nuts Support Fat Loss?
Brazil nuts aren't a weight-loss food by themselves, but they can be part of an eating pattern that supports your goals.
Their combination of healthy fats, protein and fiber can help you feel satisfied and may make it easier to avoid the constant snacking that can get in the way of fat-loss goals.
And because selenium supports normal thyroid function, Brazil nuts fit particularly well into this recipe's focus on thyroid health and metabolism.
How Do Brazil Nuts Help With Inflammation and Weight Gain?
Research on Brazil nuts has found that regular consumption can increase selenium levels and improve the body's antioxidant defenses. Some studies have also looked at Brazil nuts in people with obesity and other metabolic concerns.⁷
Why does that matter when you're thinking about fat loss?
Chronic inflammation and metabolic health are closely connected. When the body is under ongoing metabolic stress, it can affect things like insulin sensitivity, appetite and how the body handles energy.
What’s the Connection with Brazil Nuts, Brain Health, and Weight Loss?
Your brain has a lot to do with weight and fat loss, even though most people tend to focus only on food and exercise.
Your brain controls everything in your body and influences appetite, cravings, stress, motivation and the everyday decisions that determine what you eat and how you live.
Selenium is important for normal brain function, and research on Brazil nuts has also explored their effects on cognitive health.⁹
That's another reason to think beyond simply counting calories. Supporting your brain for overall health can make healthy habits easier to maintain.
Can Brazil Nuts Help With Fertility?
When I chose Brazil nuts for this recipe, I was thinking about more than thyroid function and metabolism. Selenium is also important for reproductive health.
Research shows that selenium plays a role in fertility, healthy sperm and early pregnancy. In men, selenium is important for sperm health, including sperm motility and quality.¹⁰
For women, selenium is also involved in the processes needed for fertilization and healthy embryo development.¹¹
And there is another important piece of the fertility conversation: body weight and metabolic health matter, too. Carrying excess weight can affect reproductive hormones and fertility, particularly in women with conditions such Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), which was formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Research has found that weight loss can improve fertility outcomes in some women by helping address hormonal and metabolic imbalances.¹²
That is one reason I believe it makes sense to look at nutrition, metabolism and body composition together. Occasionally eating nutrient-dense treats like these nice cream bars can be part of that bigger picture, while Zerona VZ8 body contouring can be incorporated into a comprehensive approach for people working toward fat loss and changes in body composition
Can You Eat Too Many Brazil Nuts?
Yes. Just a few Brazil nuts can provide a significant amount of your daily selenium needs- more is definitely not better.²
Possible signs of excessive selenium from consistently overconsuming Brazil nuts includes:
Nausea or diarrhea
Metallic taste
Hair loss
Nail changes
Fatigue
So enjoy them, but don't go overboard!
Hemp hearts are another ingredient I chose very intentionally for this recipe. They provide zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin E and B vitamins, along with plant-based protein, healthy fats and fiber.

Why Is Zinc Important for the Thyroid?
Zinc is involved in normal thyroid function and hormone metabolism.³
Hemp hearts also provide iron, another mineral involved in thyroid function.
That makes hemp hearts a natural fit with the selenium from Brazil nuts and copper from avocado in this recipe.
Can Hemp Hearts Help With Fat Loss?
Hemp hearts are especially useful when you're trying to create meals and snacks that keep you satisfied.
Three tablespoons provide approximately 9.46 grams of protein and 1.2 grams of fiber.¹³
Protein and fiber can help you feel full for longer, while fiber is also important for:
Appetite regulation
Weight management
Blood sugar stability
A healthy gut¹⁴
That combination of protein, healthy fats and fiber is one reason I love adding hemp hearts to recipes like this.
What About Hemp Seeds and Metabolic Health?
There is also some interesting research on hemp seeds, metabolic health and body composition.
In one study, young men who ate hemp seeds while also doing aerobic exercise saw improvements in several measures related to body composition, cholesterol and triglycerides, blood sugar control and the body's response to oxidative stress.¹⁵
Another study looked at compounds found in hemp seeds and their effects on obese mice. The researchers found less abdominal fat and weight gain, along with changes in the way the body stored and used fat.¹⁶
What is the Connection with Hemp Hearts, Inflammation, and Fat Loss?
Hemp seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which have been studied for their potential role in supporting a healthy inflammatory response.¹⁷
Why does inflammation matter when you're trying to lose fat?
Inflammation and metabolic health are closely connected. Chronic inflammation can affect the way the body responds to insulin and can interfere with processes involved in appetite, energy use and fat storage. When these systems aren't working well, it can become harder to maintain a healthy weight.

Inflammation and metabolic health are closely connected, and chronic inflammation can be associated with changes in insulin sensitivity, appetite and fat storage.
For someone asking “Why can't I lose weight?”, I think this is an important part of looking at the bigger picture. Supporting metabolic health involves more than simply counting calories.
Is Hemp the Same Thing as Marijuana?
No.
Both come from the Cannabis sativa plant, but food-grade hemp seeds contain very low levels of THC, the compound responsible for marijuana's psychoactive effects. Hemp hearts are simply a nutrient-dense food ingredient.¹⁸

The coconut cream gives these bars their rich, creamy texture, while MCT oil helps keep them smooth.
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides.
MCTs are absorbed and metabolized differently from longer-chain fats and have been studied in relation to energy expenditure, satiety and body composition.¹⁹ ²⁰
The research is interesting, but I don't consider MCT oil a magic fat-loss ingredient.
I use it because it works beautifully in this recipe and fits naturally into a low-carb approach.
The coconut milk gives these bars their rich, creamy texture, while MCT oil adds a special source of fat that fits naturally into this low-carb recipe.
What Is MCT Oil?
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides.
Unlike longer-chain fats, MCTs are absorbed and processed more quickly by the body and transported to the liver, where they can be used as an energy source.¹⁹
This makes MCT oil particularly interesting for people following a low-carb or ketogenic eating pattern, where the body is using more fat and ketones for fuel, instead of glucose.
Can MCT Oil Help With Weight Loss?
Research suggests that MCTs may have some advantages when it comes to satiety and energy expenditure.¹⁹ ²⁰
Studies examining MCTs and ketogenic diets have explored potential benefits including:
Greater feelings of fullness
Energy production
Changes in energy expenditure
Potential support for body-weight management
Use of ketones as an alternative energy source
Research on ketogenic diets has also found benefits for weight loss in some studies, although results can vary depending on the overall diet and individual.²¹–²⁴
Why I Use MCT Oil in This Recipe
I like MCT oil here because it keeps these nice cream bars creamy and satisfying while fitting into a low-carbohydrate approach.
It also pairs nicely with the healthy fats naturally found in the avocado, coconut and hemp hearts, making this a dessert that is rich, satisfying and nutrient-dense.
One thing I would look for when buying MCT oil is a product that clearly states the MCT content and ingredients. Many MCT oils are diluted with palm or other oils or are deodorized or bleached with hexane. Only buy MCT oil sold in glass bottles to avoid hormone disrupting chemicals found in plastic.

Fat has gotten a bad reputation over the years, but the type of fat and the overall quality of the food matter. I would much rather build a satisfying recipe around nutrient-dense fats than make a dessert that leaves you hungry again an hour later.

This combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats is one reason almonds are often included in balanced eating patterns.
One of the biggest challenges many women experience when trying to improve their nutrition is hunger.
They may start the day with good intentions, but by afternoon they are tired, stressed, and reaching for quick sources of sugar.
Almonds may help because they provide nutrients associated with satiety.
Research suggests that regular almond consumption may help support feelings of fullness and may have favorable effects on certain measures of body composition when included as part of an overall balanced diet.
Almonds may not be a magic weight-loss food, but they are a nutrient-dense ingredient that may make meals and snacks more satisfying for those wanting to get rid of stubborn areas of fat.

Best for: Social events, weekend baking, afternoon cravings, and low-carb sweet treats
Recipe type: Low-carb baked dessert / gluten-free keto brownie/ vegan / grain free
Prep time: 15 minutes
Bake time: 25–30 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Yield: 16 brownie squares
Difficulty: Easy
Main ingredients: Grated zucchini, almond flour, cocoa powder, erythritol (or keto sweetener), unsweetened applesauce, coconut oil, and pecans or walnuts
Designed to support:
Stable post-dessert blood sugar and insulin response
Satiety through plant-based dietary fiber and healthy monounsaturated fats

Fudgy Low-Carb Zucchini Brownies with Pecans
Category: Healthy Dessert • Low-Carb Baked Good • Grain-Free Treat
Servings: 16 squares
Dietary Notes: Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Dairy-Free, Vegetarian, Keto & Paleo-Friendly
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake Time: 25–30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients
1 cup organic zucchini, finely grated (measured after gentle squeezing)
1 cup organic superfine blanched almond flour
¼ cup organic unsweetened cocoa powder (or raw cacao powder)
½ cup granular erythritol (or preferred keto sweetener like monk fruit or allulose)
¼ cup organic unsweetened applesauce
¼ cup organic coconut oil, melted and cooled slightly
1 tsp organic pure vanilla extract
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp fine sea salt
½ cup organic pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped

Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the Oven & Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy lifting.
Combine the Wet & Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated zucchini, almond flour, cocoa powder, sweetener, unsweetened applesauce, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, baking soda, and sea salt. Stir thoroughly with a silicone spatula until a thick, rich chocolate batter forms.
Fold in the Nuts: Add the chopped pecans or walnuts to the bowl. Fold gently until the nuts are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Spread and Bake: Transfer the batter into the prepared 8x8-inch baking dish. Using the back of your spatula, smooth the top into an even layer. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Cool Completely: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes. Use the parchment paper wings to lift the brownie slab out of the pan onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Slice and Store: Cut into 16 even squares. Enjoy immediately, or wrap individually in parchment/freezer paper to store for later.

Zucchini Moisture Level: Zucchini contains substantial water. Grate it using the fine or medium holes of a box grater, then place it in a paper towel or clean kitchen cloth and give it a light, gentle press to remove excess pooling liquid. Do not squeeze it completely dry; that retained moisture replaces the need for heavy butter or oil!
Sweetener Options: Erythritol provides a clean sweetness with zero net carbs and zero glycemic impact. If you are sensitive to erythritol, an equal volume of monk fruit blend or allulose works well.
Nut Choice: Pecans are naturally among the lowest-carbohydrate nuts, offering a buttery flavor that complements dark chocolate. Walnuts provide a slightly earthier crunch along with plant-based omega-3 fatty acids.
How to Achieve Clean Slices: Because almond flour baked goods lack gluten, they are delicate when hot. Let the brownies cool completely to room temperature (or chill them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes) before cutting with a sharp knife to achieve clean bakery squares.
Storage & Freezing: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 6 days. For longer storage, wrap individual squares in freezer paper and store in a zip-top freezer bag for up to 3 months. Simply thaw at room temperature for 15 minutes whenever a sweet craving hits.

Zucchini: The Secret to Moisture, Volume, and Fiber
Zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) is an exceptional culinary tool in wellness baking:

High Water and Soluble Fiber: Zucchini is composed of over 90% water alongside soluble pectin fiber. This allows baked goods to retain a moist, fudgy crumb without pouring in cups of refined oils or dairy butter.
Low Caloric Density: It adds physical volume to the batter, helping trigger satiety without burdening your digestive system with heavy starches.
Micronutrient Value: Zucchini provides meaningful amounts of vitamin C, vitamin B6, and potassium, which assist with cellular fluid balance and post-workout electrolyte regulation.
Almond Flour: Healthy Fats and Plant Protein
Traditional brownies rely on bleached wheat flour, which rapidly converts into glucose in the bloodstream, spiking insulin and inhibiting fat release.

Monounsaturated Fatty Acids: Almonds are packed with oleic acid, a healthy fat that helps slow gastric emptying, keeping you feeling full and satisfied longer.
Vitamin E: A single serving of almond flour delivers significant amounts of vitamin E, an antioxidant that protects cell membranes from damage due to oxidative stress.
Magnesium: an essential cofactor in insulin signaling and glucose metabolism.
Steady Blood Sugar: With roughly 3 grams of protein per serving and low carb content, almond flour helps your blood sugar remains smooth and level.
Raw Cocoa Powder: Flavanols and Natural Satiety
Pure, unsweetened cocoa powder provides deep, authentic chocolate flavor alongside impressive nutritional benefits:

Polyphenols & Flavanols: Cocoa is one of the richest dietary sources of flavanols, specifically epicatechin. Research indicates that cocoa flavanols support vascular endothelial health, improve nitric oxide production, and enhance insulin sensitivity.
Mood & Neurotransmitter Support: Cocoa naturally contains theobromine, which promote mental alertness and sustained feelings of contentment without the harsh jitters associated with high caffeine intake.
Pecans: Low-Carb Crunch and Satiety Lipids
Adding chopped pecans or walnuts introduces texture and high-quality nutritional lipids:

Exceptionally Low Net Carbohydrates: Pecans are among the lowest-carbohydrate tree nuts in existence, making them ideal for blood-sugar conscious baking.
Satiety Signals: The combination of dietary fiber and monounsaturated fats triggers the production of gut satiety hormones, shutting down the urge to keep grazing.

You might wonder why a fat loss studio is sharing a brownie recipe.
Here’s the deal: treatments like our Zerona VZ8 laser help your fat cells release stubborn, trapped fat so your body can naturally flush it out.
But if you eat tons of sugar, your system gets bogged down and can't process that fat efficiently.
Enjoying smart, low-carb treats like these brownies keeps your blood sugar steady and your metabolism clear—helping your body flush fat faster so you get the best possible results.

No, as long as they fit within your daily caloric needs. Because they contain only ~5 grams of net carbohydrates and are sweetened with non-glycemic erythritol, they do not spike blood sugar or insulin levels. Keeping insulin quiet allows your body to continue its natural fat-release pathways.
Not at all. Zucchini has a very neutral flavor that readily absorbs the deep, rich notes of cocoa powder and vanilla extract. It serves purely to provide moisture and volume, creating a fudgy texture without requiring cups of butter.
Yes. At roughly 120 calories, 10 grams of healthy fats, and 5 grams of net carbohydrates per serving, these brownies fit easily into ketogenic, low-carb, and paleo nutrition lifestyles.
If you need to avoid tree nuts, you can substitute the chopped pecans with sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds for crunch. However, substituting the almond flour base requires caution; seed flours (like sunflower seed flour) can react with baking soda and turn green, though they remain safe to eat.
Following a Zerona VZ8 cold laser session, your fat cells release stored triglycerides into the interstitial fluid for lymphatic clearance. Consuming high-sugar desserts elevates insulin, which signals the body to store energy and can interfere with fat clearance. Low-carb treats satisfy cravings while keeping insulin levels low, supporting the fat-release process.
No. Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that uses incisions, cannula suction, and anesthesia, often requiring weeks of recovery. Zerona VZ8 is completely non-invasive, uses gentle cold laser light, involves no incisions or downtime, and allows you to return to normal daily activities immediately.
